Improving Disaster Risk Management According to Development Projects

Since the 1990s, efforts have been made to reduce damage caused by natural disasters, among which Disaster Impact Assessment (DIA) System implemented in 1995 is noteworthy for its proactive response. The DIA has undergone various institutional and technological changes retain original purpose. However, operation become inadequate because of diversification business types. This paper presents improvements required based on an analysis problems that emerged during development over 9000 pieces data collected from 2015 2017. results show that, first, DIA’s Practical Guidelines should be subdivided, considering diversity projects. Second, system strengthened ensure it not mistaken a mere bureaucratic box-ticking exercise. Third, non-structural measures expanded number casualties after development. Incorporating proposed this study will improve effectiveness DIA. Additionally, could established as important model Korea’s disaster risk reduction activities.
